Red Oak Bench

5 Fifty-Five Vineyard and Winery in Valley View, Texas commissioned this piece. The table set up left their tasting room slightly crowded. The goal was to maintain the same number of seats, but in a format that freed up space. A bench was the most fitting piece.

The client had a few guidelines for the design process after settling on a modern farmhouse style. The seat height, back height, and seat angle matched the chairs currently in the space. The handrails and stair treads in the tasting room were a darkened grey. So, in conjunction of their colors, white and black, and the darkened grey, I set forth in designing a bench that matched their vision.

The final design resulted in an 8 ½” foot long bench. The back legs are made from a solid piece of oak. The back legs are 90 degrees to the floor up to the seat height, before bending back 10 degrees to obtain a comfortable seating angle. The legs were built to have a farmhouse style box, but instead of the common “X” or “+”, we used a “V” to represent the three 5’s in their name.

The final dimensions are 102” long and 36” tall. The seat depth is 18” with a seat angle of 10-degrees. This allows them to put three tables in front of them for separated seating, or larger groups can fit and share the space as well.

These clients were a joy to work with and I am glad we could make this vision come to life.
